| Most children will be able to brush their own teeth by age 6 or 7. Select for them a brush that has soft, rounded bristles and teach them to use only a pea-sized amount of toothpaste. |

| Hold the tooth brush tilted an angle of 45 degrees towards your gums. The upper teeth (Maxillary teeth) should be cleaned first. Begin at the frontal (visible) aspect of the most posterior (Back) teeth and clean the teeth 3 at a time. |

| Hard candies, taffy, and cough drops are worse for your teeth than sweets that you chew and swallow quickly - like chocolate. The reason? Sugar temporarily turns your saliva more acidic. |

| Periodontics |
Periodontics is an area of dentistry that specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of the gum and bone that hold teeth in place.
We are experts at recognizing such gum disorders as gingivitis, an infection of the gums, and the more destructive gum disease known as periodontitis. Some of the more common treatments we might provide include: cleaning and scaling teeth to remove harmful substances called plaque and tartar; prescribing medicines like antibiotics and special mouthwashes; and for more severe dental problems, oral surgery. Periodontal disease is the leading cause of tooth loss. Most patients associate periodontal care with teeth cleaning.
